Obesity is an epidemic in America and with it has come the rise in the numbers of people that are being afflicted by Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease (especially congestive heart disease), Arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), Cancer and Stroke.

Some of the potential effects of type 2 Diabetes is a 300% increase in the probability of dying from a massive heart attack or stroke; hearing loss, neuropathy, amputations and kidney failure, etc.

People being diagnosed in the United States with Type 2 Diabetes has doubled in the last ten years.

African Americans with diabetes are more likely to develop diabetes complications and experience greater disability from the complications than Caucasion Americans with diabetes

60% of African American men and 78% of African American women have been identified as being overweight. In addition, 33.4%of men and 50.8%of African American women are considered obese.

Obesity and Heart Disease

•Heart disease affects an estimated 62 million Americans, and is the number one cause of death in the United States.

Obesity is now recognized as a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, which can lead to heart attack.

What can we do?

•The good news is that we have the ability to reverse these unhealthy trends through good nutrition and exercise! This is a matter of life and death!
